Over two hundred bears were present and sixty made a parachute jump from the church tower, the tallest in Pembrokeshire. Fred was not among those making the descent being of mature years.

Flood at Harriet's House

The sea-gulls have been enjoying a glut of shell food in recent weeks, but are careless about where they throw the empty shells! The gutter and down-pipe on the seaward side of Harriet's House on the harbour became blocked with discarded shells and heavy rain during Sunday night provided the family staying there an early morning call as the water came through the ceiling. The fire brigade were quickly in attendance, followed in quick succession by Alec the electrician and Nick the carpet man (to remove as much water as possible from the carpet). The Reynold's family were sympathetic and decided they could cope and were determined not to let the excitement and ruined settees spoil their holiday. We are grateful to everyone who has helped to minimise what could have been a worse event.

The Ash Tree

The other excitement of the week has been the taking down of the two-hundred year old ash tree in the Star Meadow at the Wheelabout (see picture above). The heart-wood was rotten in places and the tree was in a dangerous condition. It has been reduced to a three-metre trunk height, so that new growth from the base will provide natural habitat for wild-life, and we can pollard the growth every three to five years.

St. Mary's Church in Tenby rang with voices raised in splendid song on Thursday June 16th. Once again, Tenby Male Choir gave all their talent and enthusiasm into a concert for the Trust's benefit. Locals and visitors were treated to a fine selection of favourite songs from musicals, folk music and traditional welsh songs. Emily Holden, soprano guest soloist, sang as beautifully as ever, with 'Panis Angelicus', and ‘I Could Have Danced All Night' (My Fair Lady) just two of her choices for the evening.

Good audience participation with appropriate actions followed for 'My Grandfather's Clock'. Any members of a male choir on holiday in Tenby and sitting in the audience was invited, as tradition demands, to join the choir for the rousing finale of the ‘American Trilogy’. With Dr. John Harrison playing the organ for the great amen chorus at the very end.

We are very grateful to all those people who helped make this fund raising event such a success, to Bishop Dewi Bridges for his kind words of introduction; to the choir and the musical director Ian Williams and Jill Williams, accompanist and to Emily Holden for their fine music making and to Dr. Harrison for playing the organ. Over seven hundred pounds was raised for the Trust which will benefit the families who come to holiday in Tenby at one or other of the Trust Houses.

Thank you all - Kit & John D.
